Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners come up short in loss to LA Southwest

Rio Hondo College sophomore Aaron Patterson scored a team-high 15 points while freshman Lamin Williams added 14 points but a low-scoring first half ultimately led to a 75-67 loss to visiting Los Angeles Southwest College on Friday night.

The setback wrapped up the South Coast Conference interdivision schedule for the Roadrunners. They will open SCC North Division play on Wednesday (Jan. 22) when they host Mt. San Antonio College at 7 p.m.

Rio Hondo scored just 26 points in the opening half but trailed LA Southwest 33-26 at the break. The seven-point deficit proved to be huge as the Roadrunners played better in the second half and were outscored by just one point (42-41).

Patterson added 6 rebounds to his 15-point effort while Williams totaled 5 rebounds and a pair of assists. Darrin Curtis chipped in with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists while Jonathan Strachan (9 points, 7 rebounds) and Bryant Howing (8 points, 8 rebounds) also did their best to keep the Roadrunners in the game.

Rio Hondo fell to 3-17 overall and will look to snap a 12-game losing streak on Wednesday.
