City Pulls Away in 2nd Half For 9th Straight Win

San Diego City held a slight 35-32 halftime lead and then outscored Southwestern by 14 points in the second half to earn its ninth consecutive victory, 76-59, to improve to 18-3 overall and 9-0 in the PCAC. Jonathan Ogugua led the way offensively with 19 points, while Drew Cisse brought down a game-high 10 rebounds to go with his nine points.

Josh Williams added 10 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the win. 

The Knights shot 50% in the first half and held Southwestern to 39.1%, but the Jaguars were able to keep it close by connecting on six of their 11 3-point shots and making all eight of their free throw attempts. 

Ogugua hit a jumper to start the second half and that was followed by layups from Cisse and Ogugua again to give the Knights a quick 6-0 run that forced a Southwestern time out. It seemed as though the Knights were about to pull away, but Alex Archer, who led Southwestern with 17 points, kept the Jaguars within reach after converting four consecutive free throws to cut City's lead down to 50-43 with 11:33 remaining.

City's big run, however, was just a little delayed. Williams knocked down a 3-pointer on the Knights' next possession which sparked a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes to put the game away. 

The Knights outrebounded Southwestern, 35-24, and outscored the Jaguars, 13-0, on second chance points. Southwestern shot 47.1% on 3s and made 17-of-18 free throws, but were held to just 36.2% shooting from the floor. 

Makiah Morris and Anthony Howell scored nine and six points, respectively, while Taleh Wade led the bench effort with seven points.

San Diego City is home again on Wednesday against Imperial Valley at 5 p.m. Spectators are still unable to attend, but all home games are live-streamed on the Knights' YouTube channel.
