Oxnard College Defeats Cuesta College, Remains Tied for 2nd in Western State Conference

Oxnard, CA – January 18, 2025 – Oxnard College's men's basketball team secured a hard-fought 64-60 victory over Cuesta College on Saturday afternoon to maintain its tie for second place in the Western State Conference standings.

The Condors had a narrow 36-25 lead at halftime. Cuesta fought back in the second half, outscoring OC 35-28, but the Condors held on for the win.

Daniel Ortiz led OC with a team-high 18 points, shooting 5-11 from the field, including 2-4 from beyond the arc. Ortiz also added 2 assists in a strong all-around performance. Luke Ortiz contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds, providing critical support on both ends of the floor. Theo Briscoe added 11 points, including 3 three-pointers, while also chipping in 3 rebounds and 1 assist. The Condors' free-throw shooting was excellent, finishing 14-16 (87.5%) from the line.

Cuesta's Alessandro Perotti led all scorers with 19 points, but Oxnard's defense kept the rest of the Cuesta team in check.

With the win, Oxnard improved to 10-4 and 2-1 in the WSC. The Condors will look to continue their strong play as they prepare for first-place LA Pierce on Wednesday night from 7:00 in Woodland Hills.


"We knew this would be a tough game against a talented Cuesta team," said Ron McClurkin. "The guys really stepped up when it mattered, especially in the second half when Cuesta made their push. Our defense and free-throw shooting were key to this win."
