Mt. SAC Men's Basketball: Mounties hang on for 63-60 win over Trade-Tech in SCC North game

Mountie Men's Basketball celebrates at half court after last-second win

(Walnut, CA) With the best season in seven years for the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team unfolding, the Mounties won their fourth game in a row and 12 out of the last 14, with a 63-60 win over visiting L.A. Trade-Tech on Friday (Feb. 11) in a South Coast Conference North game.

Mt. SAC improved to 17-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

The Mounties, with only three regular-season games remaining before the playoffs, will host first-place East L.A. this Friday, February 18.

Leading the way for the Mounties with a game-high 20 points was freshman guard Shaquil Bender (9-15 FGM-A, 2-4 3 PM-A, 4 RB, 2 Stls., 2 Blks).

Freshman Christian Jones (4-8 FGM-A, 2-3 FTM-A, 8 RB, 2 Stls., 4 Blks) added 10 points, while Khalid Wilkins and Justyn Hunter added nine and eight points, respectively.

After one half of play, the Mounties had a slim, two-point lead, 30-28, but built up a 17-point advantage halfway through the second half.

However, that large lead (56-39) slowly disappeared, and with only 51 seconds left the Trade-Tech led, 60-58.

Fifteen seconds later, Bender tied the game with a jump shot, 60-60, and with nine seconds remaining he drained a 3-pointer for the go-ahead score and eventual win.
