KNIGHTS FALL TO SIERRA, SANTA ROSA

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team dropped a pair of close games last week, falling to Sierra College 70-67 and to Santa Rosa 58-54.

Against Sierra, Shasta led by three at half. Three players scored in double figures with Derek Gorden leading the way with 21 points, six rebounds and four steals. Simmer Singh scored 15 points while Armal Dhinsa scored 11 points off the bench.

The Knights clung to a 30-19 lead at halftime against Santa Rosa but was outscored by 15 in the second half. Shasta shot 8-of-28 (28 percent) from 3-point range and 21-of-66 (31 percent) in the game while only attempting six free throws. Singh was the leading scorer with 13 points while Gorden scored 12 points to go with seven rebounds. Samer Khalil scored nine points and had eight boards.

Shasta (5-8) opens the Delta College Tournament Thursday against Contra Costa.
