No. 8 Knights Stay Undefeated in PCAC With Win Over No. 14 Miramar

Both No. 8 San Diego City and No. 14 Miramar came into Monday's matchup at Harry West Gym undefeated in the PCAC, but it was the Knights who prevailed, 82-60, with Lorenzo Wright and Al Green leading the team offensively with 22 and 21 points, respectively, as the Knights improved to 15-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

The Knights, who pulled away in the second half, have now won 27 consecutive PCAC games. This streak started with a win over Imperial Valley on February 5, 2020. They won their final five conference games that season and then went 16-0 in 2021-22.

The first half against Miramar (15-3, 5-1 PCAC) was tight throughout, but the Jets grabbed a 26-22 lead on a 3-point play by Jakob Milling (13 points). City, however, put together an 11-2 run in the final 4:07 of the half to take a 33-28 lead into the locker room. 

Anjay Cortez scored six of his 19 points during that run that helped the Knights take the lead for good. 

City's momentum carried over after the halftime break when they scored 20 of the first 26 points to take a commanding 53-34 lead with 10:55 remaining. 

The Knights shot only 37.9% in the first half, but caught fire in the second as they made 62.1% of their field goal attempts. They also hit 7-of-10 from 3-point territory, including 4-for-4 from Wright as the Knights' lead grew to as many as 25 late in the game.

San Diego City held Miramar to 34.4% shooting and outrebounded the Jets, 45-29, as the Knights went on to win their seventh straight.

Anthony Howell finished with seven points and 10 rebounds. Green and Cortez each brought down nine boards. 

Next up for the Knights is a road game at Palomar (12-6, 4-2 PCAC) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They will be back home on Friday vs. MiraCosta at 5 p.m.

The latest CCCMBCA rankings were released during Monday's game and the Knights dropped a spot to No. 8 in the state.
