Citrus Rolls to Second-Straight 40-point Win

No. 11-ranked Citrus College kept rolling with its third-straight win, beating Victor Valley 84-45 Friday night.

The Owls scored identical 42-point halves to improve to 6-1 on the year. The Rams slip to 1-9 overall.

As a team, Citrus shot 50-percent from the floor, including a 43.8-percent performance from beyond the arc. Chris Harper led the Owls with 14 points, missing just one shot from the field all night (5-for-6, 3-for-3 three-pointers), and had eight rebounds. Jayden Johnston (4-for-5) and Leonard Turner (5-for-9) each chipped in 13 points. Anthony Tellos dished out five assists and had five steals on the night.

Defensively, Citrus forced 28 turnovers, which led to 35 points for the Owls.

The Rams scored the first points of the night, but the Owls quickly found their footing and took off.

Down 6-3, Johnston knocked down an Tello assist, sparking a 7-0 run for the Owls. Turner drove to the basket and Tello forced a turnover and found Chris Chiles on an outlet pass to cap the run.

Citrus put together run after run to explode to a 42-21 lead at halftime.

The Owls kept their foot on the pedal and scored 12 unanswered points to start the second half.

Victor Valley tried to keep the game close, but the Owls flew away with the 84-45 victory.

Citrus looks to carry momentum into Saturday night as they take on ninth-ranked Santiago Canyon at 6:30 p.m.
