East LA College men's basketball welcomed a LA City College team into the "E-rena" tonight that's restarting their program this season after many years of dormancy. As with many first-year teams, the Cubs are struggling this season, which provided the Huskies a chance to pad their conference win total before this Friday's rematch against Pasadena City. Despite LACC (4-19, 0-5) making it a close game in the first half, the Pack (16-7, 3-2) took full control in the second half en route to an 83-57 victory.

Despite missing starting G Kamren Williams and key sub Esteban Mann, Coach Mosley was still able to utilize his depth: 50 of ELAC's 83 points came off the bench, with super-sub sophomore G Brandon Wilson leading all scorers with 22 points on 8-16 shooting. The Huskies actually shot well in the first half (51.7% FG), but the Cubs' three-point shooting (7-18) kept the visitors in it. The second half saw the home Green clamp down defensively (holding LACC to 30% shooting, 20% from three) while upping their offensive efficiency (60% FG, 75% 3FG).

HUSKY BITS
  • Wilson, a product out of Taft HS, also had 10 rebounds (five offensive) along with two steals.
  • Freshman F Dylan Godfrey had 12 points on 6-9 FGs along with four rebounds and two blocks.
  • Sophomore G/F gregory Melvin had 10 points and six boards.
  • Both G Shemar Morrow and PG Hassan Hughey had six assists, as the Huskies assisted on 22 of their 36 made baskets.
  • East LA shot 56.3% for the game. They're currently 10th in the state in shooting on the year (47.8%).
  • G Luke Olmstead led LA City with 18 points.
  • LA City has restarted their program this season, the second season in the overall reboot of LACC Athletics. The Cubs hold two state championships, winning it all in 1997 in 2003.

UP NEXT:

An opportunity for the Huskies to grab a share of second-place in the SCC-North as Pasadena City College comes into campus on Friday at 5pm. PCC beat ELAC back on January 24th, and is 15-8 (4-1) on the season.
