Walnut, Calif. – The No. 4-seeded Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team powered past No. 20-seeded Compton College with an 80-60 victory in the second round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals on Saturday, March 1. With this win, the Mounties improve to 25-4, while the Tartars wrap up their season at 20-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC maintained control for most of the game, setting the tone early with a jump shot from Immanuel Taylor followed by three consecutive three-pointers from Kenneth Brown. Compton's Kentrell Freeman fought back with nine first-half points, including a three-pointer and a powerful dunk, but Jaidyn Simpson answered with four free throws and a dunk of his own. Despite Compton's efforts, Mt. SAC entered halftime with a 34-27 lead.

The Mounties came out even stronger in the second half, extending their lead with layups from Jon McCullough, Brown and Taylor, along with a three-pointer from Simpson. Compton's Rey Daniels and Zoe Holeman attempted to keep the Tartars within striking distance, scoring 10 and 9 points, respectively, but the Mounties' dominance on both ends of the court proved too much. Mt. SAC controlled the boards, out-rebounding Compton 28-9 in the second half, with McCullough grabbing an impressive eight rebounds.
