Hawks Soar over Jaguars for Road Victory
The Hawks were looking to bounce back from a discouraging loss last week and traveled down to Chula Vista to play Southwestern College in a Saturday afternoon game.

The Hawks were looking to bounce back from a discouraging loss last week and traveled down to Chula Vista to play Southwestern College in a Saturday afternoon game. SCC came away with a 73-61 victory. The team was eager to play and showed grit throughout the game while securing 11 offensive rebounds. The Hawks shot 49.1% from the field for the game, including 6 for 17 (35.3%) from the three-point line. They also attempted 24 free throws, knocking down 15 of them. SCC took advantage of turnovers by Southwestern and scored 15 points off of 17 turnovers including 12 transition points. With the victory, SCC's record now stands at 4-1.
Leading the way in scoring for the Hawks, was David Agba who scored 19 points, including 9 free throws. Drew Yezbak connected on 3 shots from beyond the arc as part of his 16 points. Cameron Calcote and Erik Howlin both scored 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for SCC. Aaron Wadman and Agba led the team in rebounding with 8 apiece. Wadman also dished out 4 assists for the game. Defensively, the team held Southwestern to 43.8% shooting for the game. Their first half defense was solid by allowing only 25 points. The Hawks built a 25-point lead midway through the second half and held off a late rally by the Jaguars. SCC secured the win with sound defense and solid execution on the offensive end.
This game was scheduled to be the second game of the week, but the first game of the week against Copper Mountain was postponed and rescheduled for Monday, November 29th at 5pm at SCC. The next game for the Hawks will be on Wednesday, November 24th against Mt. San Antonio as the team looks to build a winning streak. Tip-off is set for 5pm at Santiago Canyon College.
