The West Valley basketball team completed its third perfect league season the program's 57-year history with an emphatic 69-53 win over Cabrillo Friday in Saratoga. The win gave the Vikings (24-3, 12-0) a season sweep of the Seahawks (17-11, 8-4), who finished in a second place tie with San Jose City (23-6, 8-4), four games behind the champion Vikings. A 13-0 WVC run to open the second half lifted the Vikings to the convincing victory in a classic "the final score made it appear closer than it actually was" contest.

The Vikings held a slim 29-25 halftime lead, before outscoring Cabrillo 40-25 after the break. As they have done all season, the Vikings came out of the locker room with the pedal to the metal. The WVC defense held Cabrillo with out a point for the first 3:36 of the second half, while scoring 13 of their own on five points from Adam Afifi and four apiece from Mahmoud Fofana and Jacquez Walker. A Quinn Denker three-pointer at the 8:17 mark gave the Vikings their largest lead of the night at 58-33, and the final outcome became a foregone conclusion. The lead was 65-42 until Cabrillo used an 11-4 run to close the game.

Afifi finished with a game-high 19 points, while Walker capped a great all-around night with 15. Sufyan Elkannan and Denker also reached double figures with 11 and ten points, respectively.

In compiling its first undefeated Coast Conference season since the back-to-back unbeaten 1995 and 1996 squads, the Vikings swept Cabrillo, De Anza, Gavilan, Hartnell, Monterey Peninsula and San Jose City. West Valley will host the CCCAA NorCal Regional playoff opener March 3 at 7:00pm against an opponent to be determined.
