Hawks Defeat Golden West 104-63

Due to postponements and rescheduling, the Hawks played Golden West for the second time in five days. In the first meeting, the Hawks secured a 125-96 victory in a high scoring affair. SCC played much better on the defensive end of the court this time around and won by the score of 104-63. The Rustlers played tough in the early going and kept it close for the first 15 minutes, but the Hawks rallied and were able to stretch a minimal lead to 12 at the half with the score of 46-34. SCC had 8 players score in the half, led by Erik Howlin with 15 points. Drew Yezbak contributed 9 points, all on three-pointers. Yezbak also dished out 4 assists in the half.
Santiago Canyon came out strong in the second half and opened up a 20+ points lead and never looked back. The Hawks were firing on all cylinders as they scored 58 points in the half. SCC's defense was impressive as well as they held Golden West to 32.2% from the field for the game. All ten players scored in the game with another very balanced scoring effort. Howlin led the way with 19 points on 6 for 8 shooting. Yezbak finished with 18 points on 6 for 10 shooting. The other double digit scorers were Preston Sims with 14 and Bradley Burdick with 14. The Hawks were impressive on the boards as they had six players with 6 or more rebounds. Leading the way was Aaron Wadman with 9 rebounds. Harrison Wiese led the team in assists with 6. David Agba led the way in steals with 3.
SCC is back in action this week with 3 highly competitive games. On Monday, the Hawks host Saddleback in a rematch of their double-overtime victory. Tip-off is at 6pm. On Wednesday, SCC will travel to play Fullerton with the tip-off at 5pm. On Friday, the Hawks play at home against Riverside City at 6pm. Santiago Canyon, ranked 5th in the state, is now 17-2 on the season and 7-1 in the Orange Empire Conference.
