A slow start made an uphill battle more than challenging for the GCC Men's Basketball Team against College of the Canyons in the WSC South opener for both teams as Glendale fell to the host Cougars 96-74 Jan. 11. It was the conference opener for both teams as the games scheduled for Jan. 8 were postponed due to high winds and raging fires blanketing the region.
Now 6-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play, Glendale trailed 47-35 at halftime and rallied to get within a single digit deficit but could not hold off Canyons. Sophomore guard Tyus Jackson led the Vaqs with 24 points and added four rebounds. Nigel Dickens chipped in with 18 points, a team high 10 rebounds and had three steals and Noah Smith had 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Weather permitting, GCC travels to play at Santa Monica City College Wednesday Jan. 15 at 7 pm and hosts Bakersfield College Saturday Jan. 18.
