SBVC Tames Coyotes in Second-Place Battle

With the playoffs looming next week, the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team had one last major roadblock to clear in the regular season - a Wednesday night matchup with Cerro Coso College, the team that eliminated the Wolverines in the playoffs a year ago.

SBVC took to the task, leading for all but 30 seconds early in the game, as the Wolverines took over sole possession of second place in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference with a 94-76 victory inside the Wolverines' Den.

The Wolverines' pressure defense proved to be a deciding factor, forcing 24 turnovers by the Coyotes. SBVC converted on those turnovers, scoring 30 points directly off the miscues. SBVC led by 12 at the break, and opened up a 23-point lead midway through the second half.

Four of the five SBVC starters finished in double-figures. Darius Carr and Jason Hilliard each led the team with 23 points apiece, while Jason Lee had another solid all-around game with 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Khemanni Davis finished with 12 points, and Shadale Knight returned to the lineup with 11 assists.

Cerro Coso's Trent Gordon led all scorers with 26 points.

SBVC finishes the regular season Friday at Palo Verde, with playoff pairings to be determined Sunday.
