King 30 points leads Porterville in season-opening win

Porterville College sophomore Dominic King continued where he left off last season. The returning Central Valley Conference Freshman of the Year made his presence felt with a 30-point outburst in the Pirates' season-opening 92-73 win over Feather River College at the Chabot Classic tournament in Hayward on Thursday.

Porterville went 1-2 at the tourney after falling in overtime 91-88 to College of San Mateo on Friday and dropping a 93-84 contest to Gavilan College on Saturday.

King was nearly perfect against Feather River. He made 11 of 14 shots from the field, including 3 for 3 from three-point range. King was also 5 for 6 from the free throw line while adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Dustin Henderson was also impressive in his PC debut. He poured in 25 point, shooting 8 for 15 for the game, including 3 three-pointers. Tayshawun Bradford had a good game, nearly coming away with a double-double at 15 points and 8 rebounds. Bradford added 3 assists and 2 steals.

Porterville also got 10 points and 7 rebounds from Jaden Jones while Elijah Height contributed 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots off the bench.

On Friday, the Pirates erased a 43-37 halftime deficit to San Mateo, but was outscored 12-9 in the extra period to drop the overtime contest.

Porterville shot 47 percent for the game (35 of 75) and outrebounded San Mateo 50-31 in the contest. But CSM nailed 12 three-pointers, which proved to be the difference.

A trio of Pirates had double-doubles in the contest. Jones posted his first double-double of the season, leading PC with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Off the bench, Height totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds and King put up his own with 10 points and 10 assists.

The Pirates found themselves again trailing at halftime on Saturday and ultimately fell to Gavilan to close out the opening-season tournament.

King posted his second straight double-double and nearly made it a triple-double. He had 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists. Tayshawun Bradford got in on the double-double party with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Henderson also went for 23 points while Height added 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.
