Falcons knock off No. 23 Redwoods to open Coach Treggs Classic

Sophomore Jabari Merritt posted a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists to help lead West Hills College Coalinga to a 73-70 upset win on the road at No. 23 state-ranked College of the Redwoods on Thursday night as part of the Coach Treggs Classic in Eureka.

The win improved the Falcons to 3-5 overall. They are scheduled to face Shasta College at 3 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 3) in Day 2 of the tournament.

West Hills erased a four-point deficit (31-27) at halftime to pull out the win.

Merritt shot 8 for 17 on the night and added 4 steals and 3 blocks to his big night on the court. It was his first triple-double of the season and sixth straight double-double in eight games.

Sophomore Tyrell Edwards also scored 19 points while sophomore Fredery Cuello added 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
