EL CAJON — The Grossmont College Griffins opened the 49th Annual Grossmont College Invitational on the right foot as they took a 62-46 victory over the LA Trade-Technical Beavers.
Nick Mason (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Vincent Warren both registered double-doubles. Warren had a game-high 24 points to go along with his 10 rebounds.
The Griffins (2-5) out rebounded the Beavers 43-37, but both squads only scored seven points on second chances.
Grossmont's defense was spectacular as the Beavers were shutout from behind the arc going 0-for-8, compared to 5-of-23 on the offensive end. At the free throw line, the Griffins more than doubled up the Beavers by going 17-of-23 (LATT 8-19).
G-House will face West Valley (7-0) who went to double overtime in the nightcap against Cuesta. That game ended up 96-90 in favor of the Vikings from Northern California.
