SCC Storms Past Golden West in 123-98 Victory

Santiago Canyon College traveled to Huntington Beach on Monday to play Golden West College in their 7th Orange Empire Conference game. The Hawks played well throughout and secured a convincing 123-98 victory. SCC jumped out to a quick lead thanks in part to Preston Sims' early inside basket and 3 three-pointers. The sophomore from Esperanza High School scored 13 points in the first half. Freshman Aaron Wadman made another impact as well by scoring a game-high 15 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in the half. The Hawks shot a sizzling 56.8% from the floor including 44.4% from the three-point line. At the half SCC was leading 59-41.
Santiago Canyon continued their solid play in the second half as they scored 64 points with plenty of transition baskets. SCC had three players finish with more than 20 points and another two in double digits. Leading the way was Wadman with 27, Sims with 21, and Harrison Wiese with a season-high 20 points. The double digit scorers were Bradley Burdick with his season-high of 15 and Erik Howlin with 13 points. The Hawks had all 10 of their active players score in the game. Wadman had his 3rd straight double-double as he led the team in rebounding with 12 boards. He also dished out 6 assists to lead the team. Josh Griffin snared 8 rebounds to go along with his 9 points. The Hawks connected on 10 three-pointers in the game.
SCC will be back in action on Friday as they play Golden West again, but this time the contest will be at Santiago Canyon College. Due to the rescheduling of some games due to Covid-19, SCC will have a couple of games where they play the same opponent back to back. The Hawks are currently ranked 5th in the state and are 4th in the Winning Percentage Index in California. The WPI is one of the criteria for seeding in the state playoffs. The Hawks are now 16-2 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. Tip-off for Friday's game is at 6pm.
