SCC entered tonight's game fresh off a 1-point victory over LA Harbor College and looking to continue their winning streak. The Hawks started slow in this one and were down 24-8 before going on a 25-8 run to end the half thanks in large part to Drew Yezbak's hot shooting. The freshman guard connected on all four of his three-point attempts and scored 14 points to lead the team into halftime. His 3-pointer with two seconds left in the half gave the Hawks a 33-32 lead at the intermission. David Agba added 8 points in the half.
Santiago Canyon continued their momentum in the second half and surged to a double-digit lead. Preston Sims scored 16 of his 17 points in the second half including 2 three-pointers and added a team-high 7 rebounds. Yezbak led the team in scoring for the game with 18 points. Agba scored 17 and grabbed five rebounds. Erik Howlin finished with 14 points including two terrific drives to the basket down the stretch. The Hawks connected on 9 of 24 from the three-point line. SCC's bench outscored Palomar's 19-12, as the Hawk's bench continues to be a major factor in the team's success.
With the win, SCC now sits at 10-1 on the season and Palomar falls to 7-4. SCC is currently ranked #6 in the state and looks to continue their winning ways as they open conference play next week. The Orange Empire Conference will once again be the best in the state with several teams ranked highly. The Hawks will open on the road at Orange Coast College on Wednesday, December 15 at 5pm. They will return home for their second conference game vs. Cypress College on Friday, December 17. Tip for that game will be at 6pm.
