SCC Defeats OCC in Fast-Paced Game 97-91

Santiago Canyon College hosted Orange Coast College in another Orange Empire Conference game. OCC was the last of the teams for SCC to play in the first round of conference play. The game was expected to be a fast paced, high scoring game and it certainly was. Both teams had big runs to get leads only to see the other team answer with a run of their own. In the end, SCC pulled away for a 97-91 victory.
The Hawks started slow and got down by 11 early, but managed to battle back and take the lead at the half by the score of 48-41. SCC had balanced scoring in the half with 7 players scoring. Adam Holod was the leader in double digits with 12 points on four made three-pointers. His spark off the bench has been a major part of the team's success this season. Harrison Wiese snared 4 rebounds in the half.
The second half was much the same as both teams pushed the pace on offense and applied defensive pressure. SCC converted on field goals late and at the free throw line to secure the 97-91 win. The Hawks had 6 players score in double digits. Leading the way was Holod, who finished with 18 points. Aaron Wadman scored 16 points, while Harrison Wiese and Zach Ibbetson both contributed 15 points. Kaid Smith chipped in with 14 points and Damien Parker rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points. Smith led the team for the 2nd straight game in rebounding as he grabbed 11 boards. Parker had 3 steals to lead the team.
Santiago Canyon improves their record to 13-7 on the season and 5-3 in the OEC. They have a 3 game week coming up. On Monday, January 23 they will be on the road to play Saddleback College (5pm tip-off). On Wednesday, January 25 they will host Riverside City College (6pm tip-off). On Friday, January 27 they will host Santa Ana College (6pm tip-off). Next week starts the 2nd round of conference play as the Hawks are looking to secure a playoff berth.
