SCC Stumbles in OEC Play
SCC hosted Riverside City on Friday Night in a rematch of their previous meeting in which SCC defeated RCC at Riverside by the score of 89-79.
SCC hosted Riverside City on Friday Night in a rematch of their previous meeting in which SCC defeated RCC at Riverside by the score of 89-79. RCC had revenge on their mind and were able to get a road win by the score of 82-72. The Hawks struggled in the first half shooting the ball as they shot 41.4% from the field. They were only 4 for 15 from distance. The one spark plug for the team in the first half was freshman guard Erik Howlin, who scored 14 points on 5 for 6 shooting. Preston Sims did the job on the boards with 6 in the half. The score at the half was 38-34 with the Hawks trailing by 4.
The second half was a little more offensive for both teams as they exchanged buckets throughout the half. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they couldn't get enough momentum to take the lead away from the Tigers. SCC had 4 players score in double digits; Erik Howlin with 20 points, Bradley Burdick with 12 points, Josh Griffin with 12 points, and David Agba with 10 points. Preston Sims once again did the job on the boards with a game-high 8 rebounds. The Hawks shot 21.4% from the 3-point line for the game, while RCC shot 35%. The Hawks also had an uncharacteristic 19 turnovers for the game. SCC falls to 17-5 on the season and 7-4 in the OEC.
SCC will look to rebound next week as they play at Santa Ana College on Tuesday, February 15 at 5pm, and then at home vs. Irvine Valley College on Thursday, February 17. Tip-off for the Thursday home game is at 4pm.
