Cougs Conclude Season 74-72 at Bakersfield College

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons concluded its season with a 74-72 conference. win at Bakersfield College, completing the season sweep over the Renegades and exiting the 2024-25 campaign in a victorious manner.
The win also snapped a four-game skid for Canyons (10-18, 6-8) and placed the Cougars fourth, in a tie with Antelope Valley College (14-14, 6-8), in the eight-team Western State Conference (WSC), South Division.
COC freshman Wyatt Wilson was the top scorer for the Cougars, but it was the clutch performance of Gilad Ziegel that helped ensure victory down the stretch.
Ziegel converted on a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to tie the game at 72-72. Following a Bakersfield turnover Canyons then called a timeout.
On the ensuing possession Ziegel went to the basket and was able to draw a foul. His back-to-back free throws in the final seconds then pushed the Cougars ahead at 74-72.
Wilson led the Cougars with 17 points and added five rebounds with a game-high four steals and two blocks. He also led Canyons with three three-pointers.
Donovan Cornelius started the game and finished with 13 points, while Donovan Chapman came off the bench and scored 13 of his own.
Raz Orbach, playing in his final game as a Cougar, collected a team-high eight rebounds with 10 points and three assists.
