Coming out of Bakersfield College, Brandon Kurtz was considered one of the top community college centers in the nation.
He led Bakersfield to a 32-4, its best season since 1978. The 6-foot-11 center, as a sophomore, averaged 19.6 points, 11.3 rebounds per game, and recorded 24 double-doubles. He helped the Renegades to the state championship game and was named the state player of the year.
In his two seasons at Bakersfield, Kurtz averaged 19 points and 11.6 rebounds, and shot 56 percent from the field. Kurtz, who graduated from Bakersfield Centennial High School, earned all-conference both seasons and earned the Western State Conference MVP award his sophomore season.
He signed with Tulsa University, and continued to be a force on the basketball floor for head coach Bill Shelf. He averaged 11 points a game and helped the Golden Hurricanes to two NCAA berths, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2000. Undrafted out of college, Krutz appeared in six games with the Phoenix Suns in summer league play. He went on to play 12 years in the states and overseas. He won a NBA D-League Championship with the Asheville Altitude, along with fellow 2018 CCCMBCA inductee Desmond Penigar.
