RECAP: Highlights from November 10 Games

Student-athlete highlights from November 10:
#23 San Bernardino Valley 88, Compton 60 — Michael Miller scord 21 points and teammate Sylis Gray came off the bench to add 19 points a team-best 7 rebounds as San Bernardino got past Compton. San Bernardino's reward is a showdown with #7 San Francisco tomorrow (Nov. 11) at 7 pm. The Wolverines shot over 50 percent from the floor and made 21 of 29 free throws. Compton wasn't as fortunate. The Tartars struggled in each facet of the shooting, 34.6 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from the three-point line. Jordan English came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points. Compton also got 16 points from Jake TenBerge and 13 from Malvin Payero.
Los Angeles Valley 58, Cypress 55 — Los Angeles Valley got 22 points from Khalil Forrester, and they needed everyone in beating Cypress. The Monarchs 90 percent of their scoring rom thier starters as the bench provided just 6 points. All, but one of Los Angeles Valley's starters played 30 minutes or more. Kory Blunt, who played 25 minutes, was the only other player to score in double figures wit 12 points. Starter Zyaun Lee had 9 rebounds. Cypress, which managed just 15 first-half points, got 16 and 15 points from reseves Gabriel Navarro and Peyton Guerrero. Both ended up playing over 30 minutes as the Chargers starters were just 4 of 29 from the floor for the game and 2 of 11 from the three-point line. Cypress starter Higgy Katoa added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Los Angeles Pierce 69, Los Angeles City 56 — Playing its first men's basektball game since 2009, Los Angeles City fell to district rival Los Angeles Pierce. Trailing by five points at half, Los Angeles City struggled in the second half, managing just 23 points. Los Angeles City's Caleb Shepherd led the Cubs with 21 points. Los Angeles Pierce, which picked up its first win of the season, got a season-high 24 points from Keshawn Christianas well as 8 rebounds.
#7 San Francisco 102, #12 Santa Monica 70 — San Francisco outscored Santa Monica, 55-32, in the first half on its way to a victory at the Hunter Classic at San Bernardino Valley College. San Francisco played 15 players, and all but one scored. The Rams were led by William Williams who came off the bench to score 17 points with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Many of the Rams' starters played less than 18 minutes. In 13 minutes, starter Durrell Laury scored 13 points and in 17 minutes Titus Wilkins added 13 points and 5 rebounds with 2 steals. Santa Monica, which was 4 of 21 from the three-point line and 23 of 58 from the floor, was led by Mike Hill with 15 points and David Solomon with 12.
Moorpark 81, #8 East Los Angeles 68 — Leading by three at halftime, Moorpark held East Los Angeles to 29 second-half points as the Raiders tamed the Huskies. Moorpark's Jamaal Unuakalu had a season-high 27 points. He also grabbed 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. He played 39 of the 40 minutes. Avi Halpert, who played 38 minutes, scored 18 points, 10 coming on free throws. East Los Angeles was led by Jalai Okeith who had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Dylan Godfrey and Kamren Williams each added 12 points.
#1 Fullerton 75, #9 Chabot 69 — Trailing by 10 points with 4:48 remaining, Fullerton, which hadn't lost back-to-back game since losing to Riverside and Saddleback in January of 2020, went on a 20-4 run to close out the game and hold off Chabot at the San Diego City Crossover. Shawn Woodson, who was one of three Fullerton bench players to score in double figures, score 10 of his 13 points in the final 4:48. Jaden Byers, who was held to 2 points in the loss to West Valley, led Fullerton with 20 points. Off the bench, Godfrey Little and Addy G'Bye contributed 11 and 10, respectively. Chabot, which held an 11-point halftime lead, managed just 30 second-half points. The Gladiators, who shot just four free throws in the game — none in the second half, was an impressive 55 percent from the floor, but 33 percent from the three-point line and 25 percent from the free throw line.Noah Thomas, who had 14 of Chabot's 39 first-half points, finished with 25 points. Malik Kaba came off the bench to addf 10 points and a game-best 10 rebounds.
#3 West Valley 77, #4 San Diego City 70 – West Valley completes a southern California sweep, downing host San Diego City. West Valley took down #1 Fullerton yesterday. Trailing by one at halftime, 36-35, West Valley outscored the Knights 42-34 in the second half. Elijah Mahi led the Vikings with 22 points. Interestlingly, Mahi had never scored more then 7 points this season. He was 10 of 16 from the floor. Teammates Jeremiah Dargan and Shakir Odunewu added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Ninty-five of West Valley's points came from its starters as the bench contributed just 12 points. Alex Crawford led San Diego City with 17 points after scoring 20 in the win over Chabot on Thursday. KJay Bradley kept his streak of scoring in double figures in tack as he added 16 for San Diego City. West Valley is off until November 17 when the Vikings visit Fresno City. San Diego City meanwhile will travel to Santa Maria for the Home Motors Tournament at Allan Hancock. The Knights will open the three-day tournament on November 17 against Santa Barbara.
West Los Angeles 60, Saddleback 53 — Saddleback, ranked No. 28 in the state, had its season-opening three-game win streak snapped by #26 West Los Angeles. CJ Hardy, scored 27 points on 10 of 19 shooting. Marland Harris grabbed 14 rebounds, 10 defensively, and added 13 points. The game was West Los Angeles' first of the season. Saddleback struggled shooting, finishing 17 of 54 (31.5 percent) from the floor; 8 of 30 (26.7 percent) from the three-point line and 11 of 18 (61 percent) from the free throw line. John McFadden led the Bobcats with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
#2 Yuba 89, Siskiyous 58 — Yuba got 17 points and had five steals from Caden Flowers, a 6-1, sophomore guard, in its win over Siskiyous.
West Hills Coalinga 91, Diablo Valley 79 — West Hills Coalinga got 19 points from Nigel Johnson and Devion Edwards in a victory over Diablo Valley. Teammate Ahmadou Aw added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Edwards also had 12 rebounds.
#10 Citrus 87, #16 Pasadena City 67 — Citrus had fourr players – three off the bench — to score in double figures as the Owls downed Pasadena City. Tyrel Creger led Citrus with 17 points, his second consecutive double digit scoring night after being held scorelss against Mt. San Antonio in the Owls' first game. Teammates Malik Khouzam (15), JJ Mitchell and Brandon Suber (13 points apiece) came off the bench. Mitchell also had a team-high 8 rebounds. Pasadena City was led by Jalen Vazquez with 17 points. Teammates Deen Abdur-Rahmann (15) and Shant Chenorhavorian (11) also scored in double figures.
