The "Magic Johnson" of Cerritos College during his playing days, Willie Joseph helped lead the Falcons to a combined 57-8 record and a pair of South Coast Conference championships. A two-time first team all-conference selection, Joseph was also named all-state, and scored 1,305 points in his career. That total set a then school record. Currently, he sits tied for second. He is one of only six players to average over 20 points a game for his two-year career. Joseph holds the record for most field goal attempts made in a season (582) and is second in most field goals made (311).
In his freshman year of 1985-86, Joseph averaged 17.0 points and 5.6 rebounds a game. He was named first team All-South Coast Conference. A very consistent scorer, Joseph only scored over 30 points three times in his career. He improved his performance as a sophomore in 1986-87 when he scored 749 points and averaged 22.7 points a game, which are both still tied for the second highest in school history. Joseph shot 54 percent from the field as a freshman and sophomore and was a 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection his sophomore year.
Joseph transferred to New Mexico State University, where he led the Aggies in scoring as a junior (14.6) and followed that by leading them in assists his senior year (3.8). They advanced to the NIT his senior year, but saw their season end with a first-round loss to Pepperdine University. Over the next 16 years, Joseph played professional basketball in Australia and Tasmania, where he became a local legend. He helped several teams win championships and after his playing career ended, Joseph transitioned into coaching, both on the men's and women's sides.
